Question : Construction of Dams

(a) the names of dams constructed/to be constructed and under-construction at present on various rivers in the country along with the criteria laid down for their construction, State/river-wise; and
(b) the details of proposals/requests received from various States including Rajasthan to construct such dams during previous and current Five Year Plan period, State-wise and the action taken thereon?

a) Central Water Commission (CWC) maintains National Register of Large Dams (NRLD) based on the information received from the State Governments. As per NRLD there are 5251 completed and 447 under construction large dams in the country. The State-wise / river-wise name of completed / under construction large dams is given at Annexure-I. The dams are generally constructed as per guidelines / manuals issued by CWC and BIS Codes / international practices.
b) There are 13 proposals of Major & Medium Projects having new Dams are at apprasisal stage in CWC and this list is at Annexure-II. In respect of Major & Medium Projects in the country including Rajasthan having new dams, 30 Nos. and 12 Nos. have been considered and accepted by Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) of this Ministry during 11th Five Year Plan and 12th Five Year Plan respectively, as per Annexure-III & IV respectively.
