Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH & FAMILY WELFARE ( SMT. PANABAKA LAKSHMI)

(a) to (e) : The Ministry of Urban Development has informed that some hospitals were allotted land in Delhi by Land & Development Office and Delhi Development Authority with the condition of providing free treatment to the poor patients.

There have been violations of the allotment and lease conditions by some of these hospitals.

A Proposal has been mooted for freeing the hospitals from the obligation of free treatment and taking up a health insurance scheme for poor in Delhi. No decision, however, has been taken.

Health being a State subject under the Constitution of India, it is for the State Government to regulate/consider requests, if any, for exemption from the conditions of lease of private hospitals to whom the land has been allotted by the State Governments. The Ministry of Health & Family welfare do not maintain such information.
