Question : PRODUCTION OF ELECTRICITY BY R.A.P.S.



(a) whether a rate of 279.79 paise per unit effective from January 1 2004 has been fixed for units 2,3 and 4 of Rajasthan Atomic Power Station by the Department of Atomic Energy;

(b) if so, whether the Government has justified the increase in the rates of electricity despite the fact that the unit has remained closed for nearly four years;

(c) whether any meeting was held between Central Electricity Authority (CEA) and Rajasthan in this regard;

(d) if so, the details of the discussions held; and

(e) the outcome thereof?

(a) Yes, Sir. However, the cUrrent tari11is fu~her reduced to 264.49 pulse per unit.

(b) There are 4 units at RA.PS in operation. Units 2, 3 and 4 have operated well in last four years. Unit 1 (RAPS-I) was shut down on 1.5.2002 for limited safety upgrades. These have been completed and the unit reconnected to the grid on 8.2.2004.

(c) to (e) During the meeting with the Ministry of Power, CEA and DAE, the following was agreed;

1.	Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Ltd. (RRVPNL) had surrendered their share	of power in the year 2003. They will now take then share of power as allocated	by Ministry of Power.
2. The pooled tariff of units 2,3 & 4, as notified by DAE will be applicable.
