MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF DRINKING WATER & SANITATION (SHRI RAM KRIPAL YADAV)
(a to c) Rural drinking water supply is a State subject. The Government of India assists the States with technical and financial assistances through the centrally sponsored National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) to supplement their efforts in providing safe drinking water to the rural population. State Government are vested with powers to plan, approve and implement drinking water supply schemes, including installing India Mark - 2 hand pumps, utilizing the allocation under NRDWP. The Ministry , however, is discouraging the use of hand pumps as a means for providing drinking water to rural population in the country and instead asking the State Governments to plan for more safe and sustainable drinking water supply schemes.
There is no proposal to construct water tanks in each village to provide safe drinking water in rural areas.
