Question : Amount Spent by ASI on Historical Monuments

(a) the details of amount spent by Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) for maintaining and preserving historical monuments across the country during the last three years;

(b) the details of the top-ten revenue generating monuments during the said period;

(c) the details of current staff including experts, and the total expenditure incurred on salaries and wages for the same period;

(d) whether there have been any concerns raised by ASI management or employees regarding unfilled vacancies; and

(e) if so, the details thereof and the action taken thereon along with the funds allocated in this regard?

(a) The details of expenditure incurred by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) for conservation of protected monuments in the country, during the last three years, are given in Annexure –I.

(b) The details of top-ten revenue generating monuments during the last three years, protected by the ASI, are given in Annexure-II.

(c) The current staff position of ASI is 5976 in respect of all categories. In addition 19 expert consultants are engaged. The details of total expenditure incurred during the last three years on salaries, wages etc. are as under:

(d) & (e) The vacancies arise on account of retirement, resignation, death etc. and constant efforts are taken to fill up the same in accordance with the respective recruitment rules through UPSC and SSC. Besides, wherever necessary man power are also engaged through outsourcing so as to ensure smooth functioning of the department. The fund allocated for meeting expenses on account of salaries, wages etc in ASI is Rs.44510.46 Lakhs for the year 2019-20.
