Question : PERFORMANCE OF STATE SECTOR POWER PROJECTS



(a) whether there have been detailed discussions with each of the States regarding the targets to be added in the current Plan;

(b) if so, whether the States have given their commitment for completion of the projects that have been identified in the discussions;

(c) whether the targets have been fixed for achievement during the current Five Year Plan;

(d) whether some States have shown satisfactory performance in the State Sector Projects during the Ninth Plan; and

(e) if so, the names of such States along with their projects?

(a) to (c) : Yes, Sir. Detailed discussions were carried out with each of the States and its utilities before deciding on the projects to be commissioned in the 10th Plan and the States have given their commitment for completion of these projects. The list of identified projects were recently reviewed in a National Conference on Capacity Addition for the 10th and 11th Five Year Plans, held on 8-9 July, 2002. The Energy Secretaries and Chairman of the State Electricity Boards/Utilities had participated in this Conference.

For the 10th Plan, the target for capacity addition is about 41,000 MW and an addition of 3000 MW is expected from renewables.

(d) & (e) : The performance of the State Sector was commendable in the Ninth Plan and they achieved 88% of their target. The list of State Sector projects which were commissioned in the Ninth Plan is Annexed.
