Question : RESIDENTIAL UNITS FOR EWS



(a) whether it is mandatory for the private builders to reserve 35% of their residential units for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWSs) under the Rajiv Awas Yojana;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government has received any objections from any quarters in the implementation of this scheme; and

(d) if so, the details thereof and the action taken by the Government for addressing these objections?

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOUSING & URBAN POVERTY ALLEVIATION (SHRI BABUL SUPRIYO)

(a) & (b): Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY), Centrally Sponsored Scheme, prescribes reserving of 15% of residential floor area ratio (FAR)/floor space index (FSI) or 35% of dwelling units, whichever is higher, in all housing projects of total project area of 1000 sqm and above for Economical Weaker Section (EWS)/Low Income Group (LIG) categories.

(c) & (d): No, Madam. States/Cities agree to undertake conditions of RAY by signing Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Central Government in case States/Cities decide to implement the Scheme.
