a) As per the projection made by Planning Commission on the basis of National Sample
Survey Organisation`s (NSSO) labour force survey data, the labour force is expected
to grow at the rate of approximately 2.5% p.a. during 1997 to 2002 and at the same
time the Employment is also expected to grow at the rate of about 2.5% p.a. during this period.
b) The primary objective of the Ninth Plan is to generate greater productive employment
in the growth process itself by concentrating on sectors, sub-sectors and technologies
which are more labour intensive in regions characterised by higher rate of unemployment
and under employment . A Task Force under the Chairmanship of Dr. M.S. Ahlluwalia, Member,
Planning Commission has been set up to look into the employment generation taking place
and suggest measures to generate at least 100 million jobs in a period of 10 years
(Ten million in each year).
