(a) whether the Government proposes to carry out defence joint exercise with Nepal by the name of operation Surya Kiran in the near future; and
(b) if so, the details thereof and the strategic importance of the said exercise for the neighbouring countries?

(a) Joint Army Exercise Surya Kiran with Nepal was held in March 2017 in India. The next round of this Exercise is scheduled to be held in Nepal from 03-16 September 2017.
(b) The Exercise helps to enhance cooperation between defence forces, especially in terms of training and capacity building as well as to deepen mutual understanding between India and Nepal.
