Question : INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT AT INDO CHINA BORDER



(a) whether China has raised certain objections on the efforts made by the Government for creation of basic infrastructure in the border areas;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the reaction of the Government thereto;

(c) the time by which the said projects are likely to be started/completed; and

(d) the measures proposed to be adopted by the Government for strengthening border security?

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS (SHRI KIREN RIJIJU)

(a) to (c): Government is giving careful and specific attention to the development of infrastructure in the border areas opposite China, in order to meet our strategic and security requirements and also to facilitate the economic development of these areas. This includes the States of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh. Government keeps a constant watch on all developments having a bearing of India’s security and takes all necessary measures to safeguard it.

(d): 30 Battalions of Indo Tibetan Border Police Force (ITBP) has been deployed as Border Guarding Force and 163 Border Outpost have been constructed along the Indo-China Border. The entire border is kept under continues surveillance and vigilance by the ITBP. The observation Posts (OPs) supplemented with surveillance equipment’s and gadgets have been established for strengthening the border security. ITBP personnel carry out regular patrolling along the border.

Government of India has undertaken construction of roads of operational signification to establish connectivity and for smooth and speedy movement of the forces in the border areas.
