Question : Increase in Fare

(a) the reasons for operating special trains by changing the name and fare of the trains that used to be operated earlier in the very important train service of the country;
(b) whether there has been a big increase in the fare of the trains being operated presently as compared to the trains operated earlier; and
(c) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (c): To contain spread of COVID-19 pandemic, Indian Railways have discontinued all passenger carrying trains w.e.f. 23rd March, 2020. In view of the prevailing situation, only special trains, with limited stoppages, keeping in view the suggestions and concerns of State Governments and health advisories issued are being operated.
No new fare structure has been introduced post COVID-19. Only categorisation of services have been rationalised to ensure social distancing, check overcrowding in trains as per guidelines / health advisories owing to the situation arising due to COVID-19 pandemic.
