Question : CONSTITUTION REVIEW COMMISSION



(a) whether the Government have extended the term of Constitution Review Commission;

(b) if so, the reasons therefore;

(c) whether the Commission in its consultation paper has given some suggestions in regard to the States, entering into treaties and agreements with foreign countries; and

(d) if so, the details thereof alongwith the action taken thereon?

(a): Yes, Sir. The term of the National Commission to Review the Working of the Constitution has been extended upto October, 2001.

(b): The Commission indicated that it would need some more time for finalizing its report.

(c) & (d) : The Commission has released a Consultation Paper on `Treaty making Power under the Constitution` for generating public debate and discussion. In this Paper the Commission has not given any suggestion in respect of the States entering into treaties and agreements with foreign countries. The Commission has also clarified that the views expressed and suggestions contained in the Consultation Papers are not the final views of the Commission.
