Question : EXTORTION AT IGI AIRPORT



(a) whether the Government are aware of growing extortion by the taxi/auto drivers, touts and unauthorised trolly boys from the passengers at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi;

(b) if so, the details of action taken against those extortionists during the last three years; and

(c) the action taken by the Government to curb such unlawful activities and outcome thereof?

(a) & (b): There have been incidents of harassment of the passengers by the drivers of taxis/auto rickshaws and the loaders. During the last three years (up to 30th November 2002) Delhi Police proceeded under the relevant local & special laws against 1470 drivers and 409 loaders.

(c): A close vigil is maintained by the police and security personnel deployed on duty at the airport in order to curb such unlawful activities leading to harassment of passengers.
