Question : AIIMS Status to Medical Colleges

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government has any proposal to provide AIIMS status to some medical colleges in the near future;

(b) if so, the details thereof, State/UT-wise and college-wise; and

(c) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) to (c): AIIMS are set up as Institutes of National Importance (INI) under the AIIMS Act. There is no provision in the AIIMS Act to convert any Medical College into AIIMS.
