Question : EXCISE DUTY COLLECTION BY PETROLEUM COMPANIES



(a) whether the petroleum companies in the country collect Central Excise Duty on behalf of the Union Government;

(b) if so, the details of Central Excise Duty collected by each company for the last three years, year-wise;

(c) whether the amount so collected have been remitted to the Government; and

(d) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) No, Sir. Petroleum companies do not collect any excise duty on behalf of the Union Government. The Central Excise Duty is collected by the Government from the petroleum companies.

(b) to (d): Does not arise in view of answer to (a) above.
