Question : Foreign Investment in Ayurvedic Treatment Centres

Will the Minister of AYURVEDA, YOGA AND NATUROPATHY, UNANI, SIDDHA AND HOMOEOPATHY (AYUSH) be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government has taken adequate steps to popularise Ayurveda abroad and if so, the details thereof;

(b) whether the Government proposes to allow Foreign Direct Investment including foreign capital venture to start low cost ayurvedic treatment centres;

(c) if so, the details thereof along with the places identified for the purpose; and

(d) whether the Government proposes to issue any directives in this regard and if so, the details thereof?

a): Yes. In line with its mandate, the Ministry of AYUSH has taken several steps to promote and propagate Ayurveda and other AYUSH systems of medicine across the globe, including signing of Memorandums of Understandings (MOUs) for ‘Country to Country’ cooperation in the field of Traditional Medicines; setting up of AYUSH Academic Chairs in foreign Universities/ Educational Institutes; establishing AYUSH Information Cells in the premises of Indian Missions abroad or Indian Cultural Centres for dissemination of authentic information about AYUSH systems of medicine. MOUs for collaborative research have also been signed with the foreign Universities/ Institutes. Besides above, the Ministry of AYUSH organizes/ participates in International exhibitions/ conferences/ workshops/seminars/ road shows/ trade fairs etc. to have wider reach for international propagation of AYUSH and provides incentives to AYUSH drug manufactures/ entrepreneurs/AYUSH institutions etc. (a) for participating in International exhibitions/ conferences/ workshops/ seminars road shows/ trade fairs etc. for generating awareness amongst the participating public about the Indian Medicines and; (b) for registration of AYUSH products with regulatory agencies of different countries for enhancing export of these products.

(b) to (d): No such proposal is under consideration of the Government.
