Question : Development of Ports

(a) whether the Government proposesto develop ports in the urban areas in thecountry and if so, the details and thepresent status thereof;
(b) whether the Government proposesto develop new Major Ports in the countryand if so, the details and the present statusthereof;
(c) the financial implications involvedthereon along with the funds allocated/released by the Government for thepurpose;
(d) whether the Government hasreceived request from the Government ofKerala for financial assistance to developthe inland container depot at Kollam; and
(e) if so, the details and the present
status thereof?

(a)to(c): Six Potential New Port Locations have been identified under SagarmalaProgramme, namely Vadhavan (Maharasthra), Sagar Island (West Bengal), Paradip Outer Harbour (Odisha), Enayam (Tamil Nadu), Sirkazhi (Tamil Nadu) and Belekeri (Karnataka). These sites are under preliminary stages of examination and no timelines have yet been identified.

(d)&(e):The Department of Commerce has a single window mechanism or setting up of Inland Container Depot (ICD) and Container Freight Stations (CFS). Proposals for setting up of these facilities are received from private developers and some Public Sector Undertakings from time to time. Department of Commerce itself does not set up such facility nor funds for this purpose. Department has not received any request for setting up of ICD at Kollam in Kerala.
