(a) whether the export of chrome ore is affecting the steel industry;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) the steps taken being proposed by the Government to save the steel
manufacturers/ industry and ensure the supply of raw materials to the industry;
(d) whether the Government intends to impose ban on the export of chrome ore
in view of its diminishing reserves; and
(e) if so, the details thereof?

(a) : At present India’s production is sufficient to meet domestic
consumption as well as export. Therefore, presently export of chrome ore is not
directly impacting the steel industry. India has 203 million tonnes of total
resources out of which there is only 54 million tonnes are reserves and 149 million
tonnes are remaining resources.
(b) & (c): Does not arise in view of (a) above.
(d): As per available information, export of chrome ore is guided by
Exim Policy of the country. The present production of chromite is sufficient to
meet domestic consumption as well as export requirements. There is no proposal by
the Ministry to impose complete ban on export of chrome ore.
(e): Does not arise in view of (d) above.
