Question : COMMUNICATION SERVICES UNDER A SINGLE NETWORK



(a) whether the Government is considering a scheme to start all telecommunication services under one network as reported in the Rashtriya Sahara dated January 13, 2006;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government is considering to start Integrated Licence System;

(d) if so, the details thereof and the objectives of the scheme; and

(e) the time by which the said service of one network is likely to be accorded approval?

(a) & (b) Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is in the process of consultation with various stakeholders on the issues related to Next Generation Network (NGN).

(c) to (e) On 13.01.2005, TRAI has submitted its recommendation on Unified Licencing Regime to enable a licensee to provide any or all telecom services by acquiring a single license. The recommendations are under consideration.
