(a) whether the Government provides financial assistance to meritorious students of weaker section
to pursue higher studies under the Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship scheme for College and
University Students; and
(b) if so, the details thereof along with the quantum of financial assistance provided during each of
the last three years and the current year, State/UT-wise including Tamil Nadu?

(a) to (b): The Ministry of Human Resource Development has been implementing the ‘Central
Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students’ since the year 2008. The
objective of the scheme is to provide financial assistance to meritorious students from weaker
sections having family income of less than Rs. 8 lakhs per annum. Students who are above 80th
percentile of successful candidates in class XII can apply for scholarship under this scheme.. The
rate of scholarship is Rs. 10,000/- per annum for the first three years and Rs. 20,000/- per annum
for the fourth and fifth year. The details of the financial assistance provided during each of the last
three years and the current year, State/UT-wise including Tamil Nadu is at Annexure.
