Question : Stray Animals at Airports

(a) whether several airports in the country including Delhi are infested with stray animals like dogs and cats;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether agencies have alerted the Government about terror threat from these stray animals; and

(d) if so, the details thereof and the corrective steps proposed to be taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) No, Madam. However, incidents of occasional entry by stray animals have been observed/ reported at some airports.;

(b) During the last three years animal strike has been reported at some of the airports namely Calicut, Kolkata, Bhubaneshwar, Trichy, Indore, Coimbatore, Jabalpur, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Ranchi, Surat & Bagdogra.;

(c) Appearance of stray animals in and around the airport is being taken up regularly with Chief Secretary/ District Collector of the States during monthly Airfield Environment Management Committee(AEMC) meeting.;

(d) Corrective steps are taken up in coordination with Chief Secretary/ District Collector being Chairman of AEMC as defined in Rule 91 of the Aircraft Rules, 1937. The corrective steps taken to prevent entry of stray animals into the operational areas of aerodromes is enclosed at Annexure I.
