Question : Employability of Students

(a) whether employability of the students passing out of the colleges/ institutes in the
country remain low not withstanding the efforts made by various
committees/commissions set up to ameliorate the quality of education and conduct a
study thereon;
(b) if so, the details thereof including the number of engineering students who are not
able to secure gainful employment;
(c) whether the Government has taken any cognizance in this regard and formulated a
fresh policy for higher education and proposes to open finishing schools to address
the problem;
(d) if so, the details thereof and the date on which and the manner in which it is likely to
be implemented;
(e) whether various committees have suggested fixing the accountability of teachers in
this and assessment of the performance of the teachers by the students; and
(f) if so, the reaction of the Government thereto and the steps being taken in this
regard?

(a) & (b): The Government has not conducted any survey in this regard but there is a
perception that not all engineering graduates are getting employment.
(c) & (d): Several steps are being taken by the All India Council for Technical Education
(AICTE) for improving the employability of the students coming out of the technical
institutions. This includes the initiatives like National Employability Enhancement Mission
(NEEM) and Employability Enhancing Training Programme (EETP). Apart from this, AICTE
Council has approved a host of measures in their meeting on 14th March 2017 consisting of:
mandatory internships, curriculum revision in consultation with Industry and industryreadiness
training at the end of their course, which will improve the employability of the
students coming out the technical institutions
(e) & (f): There were no committee constituted for this purpose.
