(a) Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports is implementing the Central Sector Scheme named “Khelo India – National Programme for
Development of Sports”, including promotion of sports in rural areas, from the Financial year 2016-17 with the following objectives:-
a) Mass participation of youth in annual sports competitions through a structured competition;
b) Identification of talent;
c) Guidance and nurturing of the talent through existing sports academies and new set up either by the central Government or State Government or in PPP mode.
d) Creation of Sports Infrastructure.
In addition to above, Government of India is running a number of Schemes for the sportspersons such as Pension Scheme, Special (Cash) Awards, Sports Awards etc. which encourages younger generation, including those from rural areas, to take-up sports as career.
(b) State/UT wise details of funds released during the current financial year 2016-17 under Khelo India Scheme is at Annexure – I.
(c) The following sports/games have been identified under Khelo India Scheme:

(d) Khelo India Scheme aims at promotion of sports all over the country including schools. School Games Federation of India (SGFI) is recognized as a National Sports Federation and extended all requisite support under the scheme of Financial Assistance to National Sports Federation’s.
(e) Under Khelo India Scheme sports competitions are held at District, State and National level. It also provides for establishment of sports infrastructure. Details of funds released for holding sports competitions and for creation of sports infrastructure under Khelo India Scheme during the current financial year 2016-17 are at Annexure – I.
(f) Sports Authority of India runs a scheme titled Special Area Games (SAG) which specially caters sports persons from rural and tribal areas. The details of number of Trainees trained under SAG Scheme during last three years is as under:-
