Question : EROSION IN UTTARAKHAND



(a) the details of the losses suffered by the hilly districts of Uttarakhand due to soil erosion during the last five years, district-wise;

(b) the district-wise details of the quantum of fertile soil which got eroded in rivers during the last five years; and

(c) the steps being taken by the Government to check the said soil erosion taking place every year?

(a) & (b) The district-wise details of land erosion due to water in Uttarakhand, as per Report of Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR) and National Academy of Agriculture Sciences on `Degraded and Wastelands of India- Status and Spatial Distribution (2010)`, are annexed.

(c) The management of soil erosion falls within the purview of the State Government. However, in addition to the efforts made by the state Government and support provided by the ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, this Ministry also supplements the efforts of State Government by providing technical advice and financial assistance under Flood Management Programme (FMP) for control of erosion due to rivers in critical areas.
