Question : Treatment in Government Hospitals

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government is aware of the insensitive attitude of doctors towards patients and delayed treatment of accident victims in Central Government hospitals particularly in Safdarjang
Hospital;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor along with the action and remedial steps taken/proposed to be taken by the Government to check the said situation;

(c) whether the Government is aware that patients are refused admission and given long dates for check ups which adversely affects the patients suffering from serious diseases; and

(d) if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor along with the action taken thereon?

(a) to (d): No case of insensitive attitude of doctors towards patients, delay in treatment and refusal of admission has been reported in three Central Government Hospitals in Delhi namely Safdarjung Hospital, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia hospital and Lady Hardinge Medical College & Associated Hospitals.
However, the number of patients visiting these Hospitals for surgery and treatment is much larger as compared to their handling capacity in terms of number of beds, manpower and other resources. Despite availability of huge infrastructure and other services in these Hospitals, there is a waiting period for certain procedures and surgeries due to the ever increasing pressure on infrastructure and available manpower in these hospitals, which varies from Department to Department. However, the serious patient are admitted and treated on priority basis.
Expansion of existing facilities and creation of new facility in a Hospital is an on-going process and is undertaken as per the requirement and availability of resources. Projects for augmentation of capacity have been approved in the three Central Government hospitals namely Safdarjung Hospital, Dr. RML Hospital and LHMC and associated Hospitals.
