Question : MOBILE PHONE IN TIHAR JAIL



(a) whether the police has recovered a mobile phone in Tihar Jail, New Delhi from the accused of 2G scam;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the action taken against the prisoners for smuggling mobile phone into the jail; and

(c) the details of facilities provided to 2G scamsters lodged in Tihar Jail in violation of the jail manual?

(a) to (c): The Government of NCT of Delhi has intimated that no facilities other than those prescribed in the Jail Manual are provided to any prisoner. However, on 20.5.2011 during the search of prisoners after Court production at Central Jail No. 1 a mobile phone was recovered from a prisoner who is an accused in the alleged 2G Scam.

As a punishment, ‘mulaqaat’ (visitations by friends and relatives) of the accused was stopped for two months by the jail authorities for possession of the prohibited items.
