Question : Report on Migration

Will the Minister of HOUSING AND URBAN POVERTY ALLEVIATION be pleased to state:

(a) whether a Working Group (WG) constituted by the Ministry has recommended that domicile provisions in laws relating to work or any other specified conditions of employment can place migrants at a disadvantage in terms of employment and must be done away with;

(b) if so, the other major recommendations of the Group concerning migrants;

( c) whether the Ministry has considered the recommendations and if so, the time by which the recommendations of the WG will be implemented;


( d) whether the Government also plans to set up a Migrant Welfare Board for the welfare of migrants and if so, the details thereof;

( e) the other measures taken to protect migrants based on domicile provisions and end discrimination because of their outsider status; and

( f) whether migrants constitute approximately 29 percent of the workforce and if so, details thereof?

(a) to (f) : Ministry of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation has constituted a Working Group on Migration. The report, which has recently been submitted by the Working Group, deals with aspects related to various sectors and different Ministries.
