Question : FUNDS FOR COMBATING FEMALES FOETICIDE



(a)Whether the Government proposes to allocate funds to each Member of Parliament hailing from States having cases of female foeticide with a view to creating awareness about the problems of declining sex ratio and female foeticide in their constituencies ;

(b) If so, the details thereof; and

(c) The steps proposed to be taken to monitor and evaluate the usage of such funds ?

(a) to (c)Yes, Sir. A proposal for providing all the 126 Members of Parliament of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha from the low sex ratio States of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat and Rajasthan. An amount of Rs. 5.00 Lakhs each for creating awareness on the issue of sex selection and declining sex ratio by organizing exhibitions, seminars, workshops, training/orientation programme for PRIs, SGHs, public meetings, debates, essay competitions, nukkad nataks, stage shows etc. in their parliamentary constituencies is under consideration. Sensitization of Appropriate Authorities and Advisory members, consultation with different stakeholders including judiciary, public prosecutors etc. also would be undertaken. The events would be organized by the

District Collector/District Magistrate with the help of CMOs etc.The funds would be released to State Health Society, who in turn would release them to the District Authorities.
