Question : SELF EMPLOYMENT PROGRAMMES FOR MOST DEPRIVED YOUTHS



(a) whether the Government propose to provide self employment to ten lakh youths belonging to the most deprived families ;

(b) if so, the details thereof, State-wise;

(c) the total expenditure likely to be incurred on this programme;

(d) the time by which this programme is likely to be implemented; and

(e) the name of the agency assigned the work of said programme and the sources from which the funds are likely to be provided for this purpose ?

(a) to (e): There are no proposals to provide Self Employment, specifically to 10 lakh Youths belonging to deprived families. However, the Ministry is already implementing an integrated Self Employment Programme namely, the Swarnjayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana (SGSY) for the persons Below Poverty Line (BPL) in rural areas of the Country, which include rural youth. The expenditure under this Programme will depend upon the allocations made for the Programme from year to year. It is a Centrally Sponsored Programme shared between the Centre and the States in the ratio of 75:25. The Scheme is being implemented by the District Rural Development Agencies (DRDAs) at the District level, through Panchayat Samitis at the Block level, with active involvement of other Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs), the Banks, the Line Departments and the NGOs. The allocations during the current year (2001-02) is Rs.700.00 crores. The Scheme is being continued in the Tenth Five Year Plan also. State-wise number of Swarozgaris economically assisted under the Programme, during the current year is at Annexure.
