(a)&(b): Preparation of Indian sportspersons for participation in international events including Olympic Games is an ongoing process. Under the Scheme of Assistance to National Sports Federations an amount of Rs. 701.72 crores has been spent from Central Government budget during the last three years and current year i.e. 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2016-17(till December, 2017). In addition to above, the Government has also provided financial assistance to meritorious sportspersons under the National Sports Development Fund (NSDF) and Target Olympic Podium (TOP) scheme for personalized training/coaching under national/international coaches, participation in international tournaments held in India and abroad, purchase of sports equipment etc. The details of the assistance given under NSDF is given in the annexure. Disbursement of expenses has been made to sportspersons from whom the relevant demands were received.
(c) Madam, Government had paid the admissible amount to the players including the golf players who participated in Rio Olympics. There were reports in the media about not making available the amenities and arrangements for the golf players during Rio Olympics, non-payment of the dues by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), etc. The matter was examined and it was noticed that the matter concerned to IOA. Government had no role in the matter. IOA had stated in the media that the allegations were not true.
(d) The expenditure is incurred on training and participation of the entire team for each event and from different schemes. The contribution from NSDF is attached at annexure.
(e) Total number of 122 sportspersons participated in Rio Olympics-2016 and all of them were funded by Government for providing training facilities as was required.
