(a) the details of the cases of illegal mining reported in the country during each of the last three years, State/UT-wise;
(b) the details of the cases wherein necessary fines imposed on the illegal mining including Bauxite mining during the said period;
(c) whether the Government proposes to implement the recommendations of the Shah Commission to stop illegal mining in the country; and
(d) if so, the details thereof and the time by which it is likely to be implemented
(a) & (b): Based on the quarterly returns on illegal mining submitted by various State Governments to Indian Bureau of Mines (a subordinate office under the Ministry of Mines), state-wise details of instances of illegal mining reported in various parts of the country for last three years along with the details of realization of fines is given in ANNEXURE. As the returns submitted by the various State Governments are not mineral specific, specific information for Bauxite is not maintained centrally.
(c) & (d): Justice M B Shah Commission of Inquiry has submitted three reports on the State of Goa, two reports on the State of Odisha and one report on the State of Jharkhand to the Government. The Ministry of Mines prepared ‘Memorandum of Action Taken’ (ATR) on the Commission’s reports on the basis of the inputs received from the State Governments concerned and other Central Ministries/Departments concerned. The Ministry has laid the reports of the Commission along with the ATRs in the Parliament.
Action to be taken in this regard is by the State Governments and Central Ministries/Departments concerned.
