Question : TRADITIONAL METHODS OF CONSERVATION



(a) whether the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) proposed to follow traditional methods of conservation to restore and conserve heritage structures in the NCT of Delhi and other parts of the country;

(b) if so, the number of heritage structures selected in this regard, location-wise and State-wise;

(c) whether the ASI proposes to follow the same methods of renovation for other heritage structures in other parts of the country;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a)to(e) The basic principle being followed by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) as also internationally in the conservation, preservation and restoration of monuments / heritage structures is to maintain their authenticity and integrity. For this condition mapping / documentation of such heritage structures is done, technology and materials used in their original construction studied and adopted in their conservation and restoration. List of monuments, location-wise under the jurisdiction of Delhi Circle of ASI is annexed.
