Question : Lack of Security in Courts

(a) whether untoward incidents often keep taking place in courts in the absence of adequate security arrangements;

(b) if so, the details thereof, State-wise; and

(c) the steps being taken by the Government to improve security arrangements in the courts of the country?

(a) to c): ‘Police’ and ‘Public Order’ are State subjects under the Constitution. The responsibility to provide security to institutions including courts lies primarily with the State Governments. Government deploys Central Armed Police Forces to aid and assist State Governments to maintain law and order, and extends financial assistance to them to modernize and build capacity of their police forces.
