Question : FREE LIFE INSURANCE COVER TO WORKERS IN UNORGANISED SECTORS



(a) whether the Government is contemplating to formulate any scheme to provide free life insurance cover to poor workers in the unorganised sectors;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government has identified such poor and backward districts having workers in the unorganised sectors; and

(d) if so, the estimated number of workers to be covered under the said scheme and the estimated expenditure to be incurred thereon?

(a) to (d): The Government is considering enactment of legislation and formulation of Social Security Scheme for workers in the unorganized sector in consultation with all stakeholders, concerned Ministries/Departments and National Commission for Enterprises in the Unorganised Sector (NCEUS). The modalities of the scheme and coverage of workers etc. are being examined.
