Question : Security Check at Airports

(a) whether the Government proposes to adopt any mechanism to save time of passengers during security check at airports across the country and if so, the details thereof;

(b) whether the Government proposes to install automatic ray retrieval systems at airports and if so, the details thereof; and

(c) whether the Government is planning to introduce Biometric ID checking system there and if so, the details thereof?

(a): Yes, Sir. Ministry of Civil Aviation has taken up the ''Digi Yatra'' initiative which envisages seamless and hassle-free passenger processing at Indian airports, without the need for verification of ticket and ID at multiple touch points. This project also aims to simplify passenger processes at various check points in the airport; right from the terminal entry gate, check-in/bag drop, security check and boarding gates.

(b): Automatic Tray Retrieval System (ATRS) has been installed at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad. In-principle approval has been accorded to Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi to run trials of the ATRS for six months. A survey was also conducted at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) airport, Kolkata for installation of the ATRS.

(c): Yes, Sir. The architecture of Digi Yatra is based on entry into airports through biometric I.D.
