Question : Night Landing Facilities at Airports

(a) whether the Government has taken note of inadequate night landing facilities at Belgaum, Hubli and Mysore Airports in Karnataka, if so, the details thereof and the reaction of the Government thereto;

(b) whether the Government proposes to improve infrastructure at these airports and if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government proposes to introduce airbus on these routes; and

(d) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a): Night landing facilities are available at Belgaum, Hubli and Mysore Airports.

(b): Up-gradation and expansion of airports is a continuous process and is undertaken by Airport Authority of India from time to time depending on traffic demand, socio-economic considerations, availability of land, etc.

(c) & (d): Government has laid down Route Dispersal Guidelines with a view to achieve better regulation of air transport services taking into account the need for remote and regional areas of the country. However, Airlines are free to select the type of aircraft depending on their
commercial viability for deployment on a particular route subject to the condition that the safety assessment carried out by the airlines with the type of aircraft for operations to/from the airport is satisfactory.
