Question : Illegal Timber Trade

(a) whether the Government has any plan to check illegal timber trade in the forest areas and if so, the details thereof;
(b) if not, the reasons therefor; and
(c) the details of the time frame and the plan outlay for the aforesaid plan, if any?

(a) to (c) The primary responsibility of protection and management of forests lies with respective State/UT Governments. The State Governments take various measures for protection of forests such as survey & demarcation, patrolling, erection of check posts, use of information and communication technologies etc. Further, action against forest offences including illegal felling and trade is taken under extant Acts and Rules.
