Question : AWARENESS OF LAW



(a) the total number of Acts enacted by the Parliament of India so far;

(b) the measures taken/being taken by the Government to increase awareness of the general public about fundamental and basic laws in the country;

(c) whether the Government proposes to include fundamental laws and general laws useful to general public in the syllabus of schools and colleges and if so, the details thereof;

(d) whether the Constitution of India and other Central Acts are translated and published in the Scheduled languages in India; and

(e) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) The total number of Acts enacted after Independence by the Parliament and in force is 806. In addition, 902 Appropriation Acts have been enacted including Railways Appropriation Acts and 1610 Amendment Acts have been passed so far.

(b) The Central Government has placed all laws in force in the country on its website at http://lawmin.nic.in.

(c) The information is being collected and will be laid on the Table of the House.

(d) to (e): Yes Madam. The Constitution of India and other Central Acts are translated and published in the Scheduled languages in India. The Constitution of India has been published in 15 languages viz. Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, Sanskrit, Sindhi, Nepali and Konkani and Central Acts are being published in 11 languages of the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution viz. Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.
