Question : SETTING UP OF NEW PETROL PUMPS IN ANDAMAN AND NICOBAR ISLANDS



(a): the number of petrol pumps opened on the National highways in the union territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands during the last three years including current year; year-wise;

(b): whether the target set up by the Government for opening of new petrol pumps in these areas are completed;

(c): if so, the details thereof; and

(d): if not, the reasons therefore?

(a): There is no National Highway in the Union Territory of Andaman & Nicobar Islands. However, Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOC) has reported that during the month of September, 2007, one petrol pump at a location called Hutbay has been commissioned. Further, three Letter of Intents (LOIs) have also been issued by IOC for setting up of petrol pumps for locations Lambaline, Diglipur & Dhanikhari in Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) have no Retail Outlets in Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

(b) to (d): After dismantling of Administered Pricing Mechanism (APM) with effect from 1.4.2002, Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), viz., Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) have freedom to set up retail outlets (RO) dealerships and LPG distributorships as per their commercial consideration based on feasibility and economic viability of the selected locations.
