(a) & (b) Water resources projects are planned, funded, executed and maintained by the State Governments themselves as per their own resources and priorities. In order to supplement the efforts of the State Governments, Government of India provides technical and financial assistance to encourage sustainable development and efficient management of water resources through various schemes and programmes such as Accelerated Irrigation Benefits Programme (AIBP) etc. under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY).
During 2016-17, ninety-nine (99) on-going Major/Medium irrigation (MMI) projects under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) - Accelerated Irrigation Benefits Programme (AIBP), having ultimate irrigation potential of 76.03 lakh ha. and balance estimated cost of Rs.77,595 crore (Central Assistance Rs.31342.50 crore) have been prioritized in consultation with States, for completion in phases up to December, 2019 along with their Command Area Development & Water Management (CADWM) works. Funding arrangement for both the Central & State Share has been approved through NABARD under LTIF.
Out of these 99 prioritized projects, AIBP works of 40 prioritized projects have been reported to be completed.
In addition to above, special package for completion of 8 MMI and 83 Surface Minor Irrigation (SMI) projects of Maharashtra having estimated balance cost of Rs.13651.61 crore as on 01.04.2018 has

been approved. Central Assistance (CA) component amounts to Rs.3831.41 crore. These projects are planned to be completed in phases by 2022-23. CA of Rs.500 crore and Rs.160 crore has been released/sanctioned during 2018-19 and 2019-20 (so far) respectively.
Further, the Government has also approved the “Implementation of Shahpurkandi Dam (National Project) on River Ravi in Punjab State” on 06.12.2018 with the approved cost of Rs.2715.70 crore. The Central Assistance component is Rs.485.38 crore. The project is planned to be completed by June 2022.
Also, the Polavaram Project has been declared as a National Project as per Section 90 of AP Reorganization Act, 2014. Government of Andhra Pradesh is executing the project on behalf of Government of India. Funds amounting to Rs.6764.16 crore have been released after 01.04.2014. The State Government has reported that 66.90% of works (irrigation component) have been completed.
(c) One of the prioritized project, namely, Arjun Sahayak Pariyojana with ultimate irrigation potential of 44.38 Th.Ha. benefits the areas of Bundekhand region in U.P. Central Assistance (CA) of Rs.69.075 crore has been released to the project during 2016-19. Further, Rs.680.20 crore has been made available as State share through NABARD under LTIF during 2016-19. A potential of 22.20 th.ha. has been reported to be created through this project.
