Question : CENTRAL TEACHER ELIGIBILITY TEST



(a) whether the Central Teacher Eligibility Test was conducted to improve the quality of teaching in schools and if so, the details thereof;

(b) the number of teachers who appeared in this examination and the number of teachers qualified during the last three years, State-wise;

(c) whether the. pass percentage during the above period was much less than the current year i.e. 2015 and ;

(a) and (b): The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducts Central Teacher Eligibility Test {CTET) in accordance with National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) guidelines which prescribes 60% marks for qualifying the Test to improve quality of teaching in schools. The CBSE also issues Special Eligibility Certificate applicable for recruitment of teachers from Classes I - VIII in Directorate of Education, Government of NCT of Delhi and Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan which have extended 5% relaxation in qualifying marks in CTET to SC/ST/OBC/Differently abied candidates. Persons who possess the essential qualifications as laid down by NCTE and intend to become a teacher are eligible to appear in CTET examination.

(c): The availability of previous years question papers on CBSE`s Website facilitated candidates to perform better than previous year. The details of last three years Pass Percentage is as under:

(e): CBSE has taken the following steps to improve the quality of education in its affiliated schools-

(i) Activity based teaching learning process in the classroom

(ii) Assessment of practical skills through written examinations

{iii) Organization of annual competition

(iv) Due weightage to practical work in science.
