Question : Newspapers and Magazines

(a) the total number of registered newspapers and magazines in the country along with the number of such newspapers and magazines published on daily, weekly, fortnightly and monthly basis, name-wise;
(b) the languages in which newspapers and magazines are published in various States of the country, State-wise;
(c) the number of newspapers and magazines which have not filed annual returns during the last three years across the country, State-wise;
(d) the total number of newspapers and magazines authorized to receive advertisements from DAVP in the country along with the details thereof; and
(e) the number of newspapers and magazines which have deposited levy fees during the last three years, name-wise?

(a) & (b) As on 08.07.2019, the total number of registered newspapers and magazines in the country is 1,44,109 which includes 19,761 Dailies, 44,600 Weeklies, 16,377 Fortnightlies, 46,614 Monthlies and 16,757 with Other Periodicities. The details of these registered publications like periodicity, language, state, etc. are available on the website of Registrar of Newspapers for India (RNI), www.rni.nic.in.
(c) The number of newspapers and magazines which have not filed annual returns during the last three years is 1,04,964, the details of which are available on the website of RNI, www.rni.nic.in.
(d) Bureau of Outreach & Communication (BOC), erstwhile DAVP, releases advertisements to empanelled publications only. As on date, 6,137 newspapers and magazines are empanelled with BOC which receive advertisements subject to adherence to the Print Media Advertisement Policy, 2016. The details of empanelled publications are available on BOC’s website www.davp.nic.in.
(e) Number of Newspapers and Magazines which have deposited levy fees with the Press Council of India (PCI) during last three years is as under:
