Question : Repairing of Silchar-Guwahati NH

(a) whether the Government is aware of the dilapidated condition of the National Highway (NH) connecting Silchar to Guwahati via Haflong;

(b) the steps taken/being taken by the Government to repair and maintain the said NH; and

(c) the funds allocated and released for the purpose?

(a) Yes Sir. The National Highway section from Nrimbanglo to Harangajai via Jatinga got damaged due to landslide, sinking & hill movement. Two no. of packages in this stretch viz. AS-22 (Nrimbanglo to Jatinga) & AS-21 (Jatinga to Harangajao) on NH-54 were foreclosed due to landslide, sinking & hill movement. Consultant has been engaged for preparation of Detailed Project Report (DPR) of 4 lane highway through new design/alignment in consultation with JICA (Japan Infrastructure Co-operation Agency). The existing stretches are being maintained by deploying maintenance Contractor.

(b) & (c) NHAI is regularly engaging maintenance Contractors to keep this section of NH in traffic worthy condition. The maintenance Contractors for the sections from Jagiroad to Maibong and from Nrimbanglo to Jatinga are in place and for section Jatinga to Harangajao, the procurement is in process. For maintenance of this National Highway, Rs. 71.13 Crore was allocated and a total of Rs. 48.20 Crore has been released during last three years.
