Question : Proposal for Flex-Fuel Engines

(a) whether the Government is considering a proposal for manufacturing of flex fuel engines which work on more than one type of fuel and if so, the details thereof;
(b) whether the Government has conducted study on suitability of flex-fuel engines in Indian context, if so, the details thereof and if not, whether it is likely to be conducted in future;
(c) whether the Government has set any time frame to complete switch over to flex-fuel engines in the country and if so, the details thereof; and
(d) whether the Government has any plan to develop electric highway between Delhi and Jaipur and some other parts in the country; and
(e) if so, the present status of the proposed projects with estimated cost and the details of the companies involved in these projects?

(a) and (b) Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for Automobile & Auto Components incentivizes the Auto OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) to accelerate the introduction of Flex Fuel vehicles in India: for this, the following auto components of Flex Fuel Engine (capable of running upto Ethanol 85 (E85) Fuel) have been included in the list of Advanced Automotive Technology components as eligible products for incentivization under this scheme:-

i. BS6 compliant Flex Fuel Engine capable of running upto Ethanol 85 (E85) fuel
ii. Heated Fuel Rail for Flex Fuel Engine
iii. Heating Element for Flex Fuel Engine
iv. Heating control Unit for Flex Fuel Engine
v. Electronic Control Unit (ECU) for Flex Fuel Engine (Processor minimum 32 bits) and
vi. Ethanol sensor for Flex Fuel Engine

Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has notified G.S.R. 682 (E) dated 12/07/2016 regarding mass emission standard for flex-fuel (E 85) or (E 100) and Ethanol (ED 95) vehicles and G.S.R 490(E) dated 24/05/2018 regarding mass emission standards for flex-fuel Methanol M15 or M100 and Methanol MD 95 vehicles.

(c) No, sir.

(d) and (e) No such proposal is under consideration with the Ministry.
