Question : Research Project by ICMR

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:

(a) the details of research projects undertaken by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) along with the funds allocated/released and utilised therefor during the last three years and the current year;

(b) whether the ICMR has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE) for joint exploration of forest reserves in order to find new compounds/products active against cancer,diabetes and other diseases; and

(c) if so, the details thereof along with the progress made in this regard?

Projects undertaken by ICMR along with funds allocated is given in Annexure.
(b): A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE) and Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) in 2013 with the focus to lay foundation of cooperation and joint action for exploration of forest resources for their bioactive principles having anticancer and anti-diabetic properties and preclinical development of these natural products as chemotherapeutic agents.

(c): A collaborative project on, “Efficacy of Active Phytoconstituents from Weeds Viz., Coccinia Indica and Achyranthes Aspera for hypoglycemic activity between Forest Research Institute (Indian Council of Forestry Research & Education, Dehradun) and ICMR Institute at National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) Hyderabad, has been developed.
