Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS ( SHRI PRATIK PRAKASHBAPU PATIL )

(a) There is no proposal at present to open Sports Academy to impart training to sports persons including tribal youth in the country. However, there is already a scheme of Special Area Games (SAG) being implemented by Sports Authority of India, which aims to scout natural talent for modern competitive games and sports from tribal, rural, coastal and hilly areas of the country and also from regions having genetic/geographical advantage and nurture them scientifically for achieving excellence in modern competitive games and sports. The trainees are adopted in the age group of 14-21 years. During 2009-10, the number of SAG Centres was 21, in which 2019 trainees are being trained.

(b) & (c) Does not arise, in view of (a) above.

(d) & (e) As replied in response to part (a) above, there is already a scheme of Special Area Games for identification and nurturing of talent from tribal areas.
