(a) and (b) Objective of the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) is to correct regional imbalances in the availability of affordable/ reliable tertiary healthcare services and also to augment facilities for quality medical education in the country. PMSSY has two components - Setting up of new AIIMS and up-gradation of existing Government Medical Colleges (GMCs). Setting up of 22 new AIIMS and upgradation of 75 existing Government Medical Colleges in the country has been sanctioned under the Scheme.

Patients are benefitted by the upgradation of existing Government Medical Colleges and all the AIIMS are meant for providing facilities for teaching / learning, patient care and research. Patient care services in OPD and IPD are available for everyone. The details of patient statistics of functional six AIIMS at Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh, Bhubaneswar in Odisha, Jodhpur in Rajasthan, Patna in Bihar, Raipur in Chattisgarh and Rishikesh at Uttarakhand for the years 2018-19, 2019-20 and 2020-21 are given at Annexure.
