Question : STANDARDS OF AVIATION SKILLS



(a) whether a pilot in India qualifies with just 200 hrs. on a light piston-engine aircraft whereas an airline co-pilot in other countries including United States is required to have a minimum of 1,500 hrs. and if so, the reasons therefor;

(b) whether the world standard for a captain on a wide body aircraft is not less than 6,000 hrs. whereas airlines in India require a mere 2,500 hrs. and if so, the reasons therefor; and

(c) the steps taken or proposed to be taken by the Government to bring aviation standards in the country at par with international standards?

(a) The minimum flying hours requirements for CPL (Commercial Pilot License) & ATPL (Airline Transport Pilot License) are 200 hours and 1500 hours respectively in India. However, Directorate General of Civil Aviation is not aware of such requirements in US.

(b) DGCA is not aware of such requirements in foreign airlines and DGCA do not prescribe any flying standard for designating captain on a wide body aircraft.

(c) Does not arise in view of above.
