The weighted average cost of production for all the units of NPCIL, for the year 2000-01 is 157 paise/KWh. The cost of production does not include the profit element and also the levies of 10 Paise/KWh towards de-commissioning, renovation, modernisation and Research and Development. The cost electricity production from nuclear power plants is comparable to the cost from other contemporary coal thermal power plants located away from coal pit-heads.
