Question : Online Platform for Inspection of Food

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:

(a) whether the food regulator, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has launched nationwide online platform for inspection and sampling of food items;

(b) if so, the details thereof along with the aims and objectives thereto;

(c) the details of the key stakeholders who will be involved in the new online system;

(d) whether FSSAI has asked the States to adopt this system to eliminate discrepancy and make food safety officers accountable;

(e) if so, the details thereof and the response of the State Governments thereto; and


(f) the steps taken/being taken by the Government to bring more transparency in food safety, inspection and sampling?

(a) & (b): Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has launched a web based mobile app, namely, Food Safety Compliance through Regular Inspections and Sampling

(FoSCoRIS) on 02.11.2017 for inspections and sampling to verify compliance of food safety and hygiene standards by food businesses as per regulatory requirements with an aim to replace the manual Inspection with digital Inspection and serve as an empowering tool not only for Inspection but also for monitoring, data collection and data analysis with the objective to ensure uniformity, transparency, consistency and objectivity.
(c): Officials comprising Food Safety Commissioners of States/Union Territories, Designated Officers (DOs), Food Safety Officers (FSOs) and Food Business Operators (FBOs) are the key stakeholders under the FoSCoRIS.
(d) & (e): All States/Union Territories were requested to submit their willingness to adopt FoSCoRIS in the 20th Central Advisory Committee’s meeting of FSSAI held on 22nd August, 2017 to eliminate discrepancies in inspection of food premises and making FSOs more accountable.
The State/UTs viz. Chandigarh, Delhi, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala and Madhya Pradesh have given their willingness for implementation of FoSCoRIS.
